The Cuisine of Assam as Experienced on the MV Mahabaahu

The Cuisine of Assam as Experienced on the MV Mahabaahu

The legacy of Assamese cuisine is no laughing matter.

Numbering amongst one of the most flavourful and healthy cuisines offered by India, Assamese cuisine is rich in taste, variety, and stories told between generations.

Developed around the Assamese staples, rice and fish, you’ll find a cuisine prolific in various meats, green vegetables, and plenty of local spices.

An important thing to note is: Assamese food is one of the most accommodating regional cuisines when it comes to travellers that cannot stomach spices.

Aboard the M.V.Mahabaahu our Executive Chefs will ensure you’re delighted with every meal you eat. Between the Chef de Partie, Chef de Patisserie and Chef Tandoori, you’ll have plenty of choices at your disposal.

A 24-hour tea and coffee station with cookies is available at the entrance to the restaurant, and a fresh egg/omelette station is available at breakfast, which is usually served between 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. All meals are served in the 50-seat Mungri Mungram restaurant on the Main Deck, which also serves as a venue for onboard talks and slideshows.

Our onboard bakery serves bread and rolls, baked fresh daily.

Breakfast dishes include hot bacon, and lunch buffets include tasty naan and other Indian breads alongside fish and chicken stews and mildly curried vegetable dishes. The cuisine at dinner, which usually starts between 7:15 and 7:30 p.m., generally alternates between traditional Indian/Asian and European.

The kitchen ensures a variety of local and international cuisines and can accommodate all your dietary preferences.  All food allergies are happily and safely accommodated onboard the MV Mahabaahu – please inform us well in advance in order to serve you to our best ability.
